## When an inlay or onlay is the right call For posterior teeth with cuspal coverage needs but sound supporting structure, inlays and onlays preserve more enamel than a full crown — and bond beautifully. We fabricate: - **Lithium disilicate (e.max) inlays & onlays** — the most common indication. Strong, esthetic, and bondable. - **Zirconia onlays** — for higher-stress cases where strength is the priority. - **Cast gold inlays & onlays** — when longevity is everything and esthetics aren’t a concern. Still the gold standard for a reason. ## Why owner-fabrication matters here Inlays and onlays live or die on **margin fit and contact tightness**. There’s no shell of porcelain to mask a less-than-perfect prep adaptation. Because every case at Northwest Dental Studio is designed and fabricated by the owner — not handed off across a production line — small details get the attention they deserve: - Contact strength tuned to the case, not a default - Margins designed for the cement type you’re using - Occlusion verified on the articulator before shipping ## What we need from you - Digital scan or PVS impression - Opposing arch and bite registration - Shade — VITA tab plus an intraoral photo - Notes on the cement system you’ll use (resin, glass ionomer, etc.) ## Turnaround Standard in-lab time is **7–10 working days**. Rush turnaround is available — just call. ## Inlay & onlay FAQs
Inlay/onlay vs. full crown — when should I choose what?

If the remaining tooth structure is sound and the cusps can be preserved or partially covered, an inlay or onlay conserves more tooth. If the tooth needs full circumferential coverage for retention or fracture resistance, a crown is the better choice. We’re happy to look at the prep and weigh in.

What materials do you recommend?

For most posterior cases, e.max (lithium disilicate) delivers the best combination of strength, esthetics, and bondability. For very heavy occlusion or bruxers, zirconia is a safer call. For longevity-first cases, gold still wins.

How long do inlays and onlays take?

Standard in-lab time is 7 to 10 working days. Rush turnaround is available — just call the lab.

Can you do an inlay-retained bridge?

Yes — send us the case and we’ll discuss design options.
